| | The German-based TeamViewer, a leading global provider of remote connectivity and workplace digitalization solutions, announced the set up of a new Research & Development hub in Porto, Portugal, to enhance its leading engineering force in strategically important fields like Augmented Reality (AR) and Internet of Things (IoT). Through recent acquisition of the Porto-based software development agency [Hapibot], TeamViewer already kick-started its on-site presence with a team of around 20 highly skilled software and design engineers. According to Mike Eissele, Chief Technology Officer of TeamViewer: “Portugal is an excellent location for our new R&D hub with many good universities and a large pool of top engineering talent highly motivated to drive the next wave of digitalization. We are quite excited to become active part of such a vibrant tech hotspot. With the awesome [Hapibot] team joining TeamViewer, we already hit the ground running to push the boundaries of our solutions and accelerate innovations with TeamViewer technology made in Portugal.” |
| | German Retarus opens a development centre in Lisbon

| | Munich-based cloud provider Retarus opens a new software development centre in Lisbon and will hire 15 new employees by the end of this year with plans of further growth in the future. According to CEO and Founder, Martin Hager, “Portugal’s tech industry is currently growing twice as fast as any other tech hub in Europe. The country’s modern education system is among the best in Europe at university level and trains tech talents at the very highest level. As an important IT hub, Lisbon also attracts a large number of foreign investors and highly qualified, international professionals. For us, this is a perfect environment to increase our capacity for software development even further and to find exactly the right talents to achieve this goal.” | | | |
| Corialis announces the construction of a new factory in the North of Portugal

| | The Belgian Group Corialis, the aluminum systems provider, through its Portuguese subsidiary Lingote, will build a new factory in Fafe, an investment of 50M€ with the aim to employ 260 new jobs in the region. According to Corialis, this investment will not only impact the region with new employment, but will also transform Fafe into the capital of the Iberian Peninsula in the aluminum extrusion sector and design and development of aluminum profiles.

| VTEX opens its new technolgy hub in Lisbon

| | The Brazilian e-commerce platform VTEX has just announced the opening of its first technology hub in Portugal. Lisbon becomes the fourth city in Europe to host the company, alongside with London, Barcelona, Milan and Romania. “Lisbon is our newest technology hub, supporting us to scale our operations to the European and American markets. (…) We came to Lisbon to get in touch with the professionals who are positioning the country as an emerging hub of product growth and software development. (…)”, says the company at its website.

| |  | | The EY European Investment Monitor 2021 reports that Portugal ranks in the TOP 10 countries with the highest number of FDI projects in Europe. The country achieved 154 projects last year. The report also highlights that Portugal is the 6th largest destination for software and IT services, which represents more than a third of the total number of projects.
