According to Eidosmedia's CEO, Christian Pelanconi, “We’ve chosen Porto for our new technology centre because of its world-class universities, modern infrastructure and international environment”.

| Iberdrola inaugurates Tâmega Gigabattery in Portugal | |  |

| |  | | The Spanish gas and electricity distributor Iberdrola just inaugurated the Tâmega Electricity Production System, which includes 3 hydroelectric plants and 3 dams, representing an investment of 1.5 billion euros. This is one of the largest hydroelectric projects in Europe, with a capacity of 1,158 MW, and capable of storing 40 million KWh.

| |  | | The report “Embracing the Challenges of Digital Transformation”, by Akin Gump and law firm PLMJ, supported by Start Campus, positions Portugal as a highly desirable jurisdiction to establish and operate data centres. The report explores how Portugal addresses data protection and cybersecurity challenges, in addition to its geographical and technological advantages, such as the network of fibre optic cables which positions the country as a “European gateway” to the rest of the world. At the same time, the country has been recognized for being a hidden gem of connectivity and for fostering innovation, while working within the high standards of the EU framework and maintaining a secure and confidential privacy and cybersecurity enforcement regime.

| Recognition | | Portugal, an increasingly attractive FDI destination
| | | 2021 was a record year in the number of FDI projects. Portugal reached a whopping 200 FDI projects in 2021, which will generate over 28,600 jobs, as stated in the latest EY Attractiveness Survey – Portugal. This achievement places the country in the 8th position of the top main recipients of FDI in Europe, and it represents the second biggest growth in FDI projects within the top 10 European countries.
Software and IT services account for the highest number (65) of investment projects – which alone may stand for close to 15,000 jobs – in a clear sign of the growing importance of the Digital Economy as the main engine and the leading sector in Portugal for FDI. The main investors in the country are the USA and Germany, each accounting for 15% of total projects, followed by France (14.5%), the UK (12%) and Spain (11%).
