Portugal climbed two spots and reached 6th place in EY’s European Attractiveness Survey 2023, which ranks the attractiveness of European countries in terms of FDI.

In 2022, Portugal attracted 248 FDI projects, 24% more than in 2021, the second largest growth in number of projects. The study highlights the country's economic, social and energy resilience.

Avenue Code opens a Delivery Centre in Lisbon

San Francisco-based software consultancy company Avenue Code, part of UOL Group, just announced the opening of a delivery centre in Lisbon to serve the global market.
Avenue Code’s Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Zeo Solomon, stated that the executive team selected Portugal for multiple reasons: "Portugal enjoys a high ranking on the quality-of-life index. Its government's visa schemes and incentives for entrepreneurs have attracted top talent from around the globe".

Intellias inaugurates first office in Porto

Intellias, a global technology partner to Fortune 500 enterprises, has launched an engineering centre in Porto.
Operating in Portugal since 2022, Intellias now held the inauguration ceremony of its first office, which will also serve as the company's headquarters in the country. Intellias plans to have around 100 engineers in Portugal by the end of 2023.

Gaming company PTW announced the opening of a new studio in the city of Braga, north of Portugal, that will offer Localization Quality Assurance and other services according to market demands.
"As a company we looked at numerous locations for expanding our European services footprint, but ultimately selected Braga because of the huge potential we see in the region", said CEO Deborah Kirkham. "Portugal has a high-caliber talent pool and a flourishing gaming scene, both of which are requirements to grow our operations and serve our world-class clients".

Siemens chose Portugal for its Digital Industries Inside Sales hub, which will cover markets such as the UK, Sweden, Norway and Poland, and is expected to reach 30 professionals. Alf Franzoni, Head of Global Business Services for Western Europe and Africa, highlights the reasons for choosing Portugal for this project: the quality of human resources, the macroeconomic and fiscal stability, the quality of the education system, the language skills and openness towards other cultures.

Tire manufacturer Continental inaugurated a new solution centre in Lousado, Portugal, in the vicinity of the tire plant, to provide global support in digital tire solutions, e-commerce and Industry 4.0 applications. The company is recruiting specialists from the fields of IT, artificial intelligence and applied analytics, e-commerce and industrial engineering, to reach 160 employees by 2026.

Portugal took 8th place in the 'Top 10 Countries Per Capita' and Lisbon ranked 4th among the 'Top 5 Metros in Western Europe' category, according to the May edition of the "Global Best to Invest" rankings, by Site Selection magazine.
Portuguese talent, quality of life, safety, low operational risk, infrastructure, innovation, and sustainability practices were key for this achievement.

NEW INCENTIVE SCHEME FOR SMEs IN PORTUGAL


SMEs can now apply for financial support for productive innovation under the programme Portugal 2030 [PT2030], with two tenders totalling 400 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund, for which companies can apply until 15 December, 2023.
The maximum co-financing rate is 40%, and each company can only submit one application for projects under 25 million euros. Projects should contribute to the improvement of production capacity and to the development of innovative, digital and sustainable solutions, with a strong focus on R&D and qualified job creation.
